hmm well John I am a little skeptical that solar ovonics is *really* 10%. I read business plans on solar all the time, it is not my area but I work for VCs and have them available... the only solar thin films that are actually rated over 10% by the rating agencies are first solar at close to 11%. Solar ovonics is not listed- who is making the claim they have 10%?

My personal opinion is nanosolar is somewhere slightly over 7%, too low.

Solar Ovonics makes this claim for their efficiency: .

Triple Junction technology provides unprecedented levels of efficiency and stability for amorphous silicon solar cells (stabilised aperture area cell efficiency of 7.0 - 7.5%).

Each cell is composed of three semiconductor junctions stacked on top of each other. The bottom cell absorbs the red light, the middle cell the green/yellow light and the top cell absorbs the blue light.

This spectrum splitting capability is one of the keys to higher efficiencies and higher energy output, especially at lower irradiation levels and under diffuse light.

Under diffuse light conditions, where total radiation is lower, their conversion efficiency rises to 9%. This is less electricity produced, but a higher percentage of the total light.
