Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the idea of solar. Someday, I hope to put panels or solar shingles all over my roof, a windmill in my back yard and a geothermal system under my property.

But I just think that solar will languish until we're back on our feet, economically. If anyone thinks this is over, they're kidding themselves. Investments that don't contribute almost immediately to the bottom lines of individuals and companies won't be made for a few years.

The biggest fear I have of a recession viz a viz solar stocks is that it results in reduced electricity demand, keeping prices down. That could push out grid equivalency estimates 2-3 years and at least keep a lid on the stocks. Progress will still be made in the tech, and money will still flow to the sector, but maybe not in large enough amounts to float all solar investment boats.....

It's really a question of how deep and long the recession is. If it's an overnight sensation like 2001, it won't make much of a dent. And by 2011-12 we'll see plug in hybrids in larger numbers, which should goose electrical demand in any event.
