"One would think we would pay the educators of our children a living wage."

..and issue them cattle prods. Harmless, but very effective. Ted, I have to confess that I was a hell-raiser starting in Jr. high. Me and my hell raising buddies used to bet on which one of us could make the substitute or teacher in training cry. I often won. A tip: public humiliation in front of the class used to be very effective in controlling my behavior.

When my mom told me she was going back to school to get her teaching certificate, I asked why? She recited her fond memories of bringing an apple to the teacher and that she's always wanted to be one. I warned her that it wasn't like how it had been when she was a kid.

A year after starting teaching, she agreed with me. She taught for ten years, the minimum required to get a retirement package. We often discussed the daily horrors she faced teaching Jr. high.

Ted, I actually agree with everything you said.

The only thing is that both sides of the political aisle debate in a vacuum. "What can government do or not do to help the situation?"

I personally think the problem is cultural. Maybe we do need to slow down our economy so that we can focus on the family again. I see some kids these days in Newport Beach with Louis Vuitton handbags. How crazy is that?
