I didn't read that particular article, but I've read plenty on it. I'm prolly biased from 20 summers of 110-115 degree heat here in Phoenix, though....it's certainly feasible here.

Besides being the Saudi Arabia of mortgage fraud, Arizona's the Saudi Arabia of solar (for that matter, Saudi Arabia is prolly the Saudi Arabia of solar given their climate!<G>)

Of the methods they talk about, it seems to me the photovoltaic route would be limited by rising materials costs in the long term. That's why I favor solar thermal.....plus the energy produced is turbine generated and easier to transmit.

The thing that's most galling about the price cited: $420 billion, less than what we've wasted in Iraq.<NFG>

T, Scientific American is great but can be about 10 years early...speaking from experience. -ng/g-
