Those teen years are rather trying to be nice.

I wouldn't know. My eldest's teen years were as uneventful as floating on a cloud. <ggg>

In a thunderstorm, with lightening all around.

Telephones seem to figure in with some of your parenting issues, don't they? <ggg>

ROTFL!! When my kids were younger they had said, "so-and-so has nicer parents", "so-and-so gets to do this and so-and-so gets to do that". I told them to get in the car and I would drop them off at these peoples houses since that was where they wanted to live but they couldn't take anything with them but the clothes on their backs. They were very upset about leaving their games, ipods, etc behind. I said, I work hard to give you want you want within reason, I love you no matter what you say or do, when I've been so sick or tired from working long hours I've done things for you that I didn't do for myself because I only had enough energy for one thing. I gave you everything you have. It's obvious to me that isn't enough and since I love you that much, so-and-so's parents can get you whatever you want and they can raise you because obviously, what you have isn't good enough, so load up and lets get going!

Needless to say, they never left.<g>

Thank god I have boys. I would tell them don't get in a car if the person offers you candy. They would ask 'how about if it's really good candy" I said ok if it's really good candy
