Lane,

As I said in my post to Ken, it is the oxygen that damages it. So as long as it is vacuum packed, it is fine, but once you open it, it starts to go bad (once it is exposed to oxygen).

Generally, the people who are in favor of flax seed are people who are militant vegetarians or vegans. These people, while they recognize the undeniable benefit of Omega 3s, they can't bring themselves to take it from animal sources, so the come up with the poor man's version of Omega 3s - flax.

The other group that likes flax seed are people who think it is good to take a lot of fiber. I need to read more on the subject (pro or con) whether it is a good idea to supplement fiber. There are arguments against supplementing fiber.
