I'm not making excuses for them, but IMO, there is a difference between putting on 20-30 pounds of muscle in your late 30s and recovering from a sore elbow a few weeks faster.

One leads to over 70 home runs and the other leads to an extra few starts per year. And as I said before, there are loads of legal drugs and therapies that also attempt to speed up recovery.

In my mind, Clemens' stats are pretty legit. Bonds, McGwire, etc.. are not.

The problem, as you said, is that it's almost impossible to determine intent. That's why all this stuff needs to be banned.
