Mqurice is a citizen of SI and as Socrates once said, "I know you won't believe me, but the highest form of Human Excellence is to question oneself and others."

Socrates chose to stay in Athens after being condemned of being thoughtful for several reasons:

He believed that such a flight would indicate a fear of death, which he believed no true philosopher has.

Even if he did flee Athens he and his teaching would fare no better in another country, as he would continue questioning all he met and undoubtedly incur their displeasure as well.

Having knowingly agreed to live under the city's laws or Terms of Use he implicitly subjected himself to the possibility of being accused of crimes by its citizens and judged guilty by its jury. To do otherwise would have caused him to break his "social contract" with the state, and by so doing harming it, an act contrary to Socratic principle.
