The Founders were not religious at all. AT most they believed there must be some kind of supreme being. None nof them were churchy. They all feared orthodox religion's infection of our government just as much as they feared other forms of tyranny. Remember, religious zealots, including some of Bush's followers and the Taliban, have a, long history of supressing democracy, civil rights, free speech and other freedoms in societies going back thousands of years.

Without strong separation of church and state we are a democracy teetering on the edge of totalitarianism. Bush proved that when he closed down to government to obsess on a big fat lie about Terri Schiavo and allow massive threats against our judges, Constitution, privacy laws and civil liberties.
