KLP,

The feed back on this discussion point illustrates clearly how difficult it will ever be to control entitlements. While your scenario in some ways is very close to the scenario of her life - the fact remains that mom and dad put in a small amount of money and took out a lot - far beyond what an insurance policy would have paid. The point remains - many need more - many need less or almost nothing. Somehow those who need less or nothing feel entitled beyond reason. The AARP is thier lobbying group - and it is feared.

So far I have refused to join AARP although I am eligible as I have always felt that they were a selfish organization without concern for the greater good of the nation. Perhaps I will simply join the party and enjoy the music on the Titanic.

This is one of the best summaries I have ever read of the generations of the 1900's until after WWII.

The sacrifices that our Great Grandparents, Grandparents and Parents made so that we might have what we have today is significant and outstanding.
