This French guy is a complete atheist, as far as I know he has never been to temple, and he doesn't consider himself to be Jewish. What do you think - is he Jewish or not? By Jewish law, he is Jewish. So for him, it depends whether he wants to say that he's Jewish or not. If he says he is, then he is. If he says he isn't then he isn't. He doesn't have to go to Temple or be religious. It sounds like he's just embarrased about being Jewish, it can't be something you want to proclaim in Dubai.
