If one can cease being Jewish by simply declaring that they are not Jewish, why would anyone remain Jewish, but be embarrassed about it?

Um, because human nature is not so simple and your core identity is not easily repudiated?

Religion is very simple. Say you are not a member of an organized religion, and you aren't, voila.

Neither human nature nor one's core identity are necessarily determined by the religion of one's mother.

Nadine, you are silly. Based on your logic, most ME Muslims and Christians (i.e. Arabs) are still Jews. WOW or the other explanation of your nonsense is if the Jewish community lets go of those Jews that decided not be Jews anymore, the number of Jews will drop to about 3 millions. That number make Israel useless and a failed state.
