Perhaps very old people have costs that high, or higher. Most "families of four" do not have costs that high after insurance. Many uninsured people do not have total costs that high.

Not that high... but half that is still very significant.

I found an interesting chart in my travels this morning. It identifies Medicaid costs per person by age.

Elderly 13893
Disabled 12,925
Adult 2137
Child 1904

Presumably, then, the cost of a medical care plan for two parents and two kids would be about $8K and insurance with copays and deductibles would be proportionately less.
