John, amazing that one with such a fantastic memory can at the same time exhibit such pathetic judgement!

>>>She has made an utter fool of herself.<<<

LOL!! It must be contagious!

>>What happened to the poor woman?<<

Perhaps she swapped identities with the new "kinder and gentler" Slider... ;>)

I've been trying very hard to be more civil, and to
walk a kinder and gentler path. In fact, this was one
of my main New Year's resolutions for 2008

OT: <<<and now she has become some ridiculous mouthpiece for the right wing propaganda machine. ...She has made an utter fool of herself.>>>

John: Aren't you just a little embarrassed about using this cliche? "Right wing propaganda machine"? The same one that Hilary at one time used to complain about? Even she is now uncomfortable when asked by reporters about this phrase.

And "fool"? Diana? You clearly disagree with some perceived ideological content in her post, but I would absolutely DEFY you to demonstrate to any rational being that anything she wrote was 'foolish'? She and I both are Lord Acton "liberals", but then that is probably over your head and for that I apologize.

INCIVILITY OF PUBLIC DISCOURSE

What is instructive and interesting to me about this brouhaha is the sensitivity of gentlepersons of the "left" to ALL comments by those on the "right" that touch even tangentially on President Bush ("BUSH!!!") or the last two presential elections. (We on the "right",of necessity, have tougher hides.)

The shrinking political middle in America clearly find this incivility in political life disturbing and that is one of the chief reasons Obama's rhetorical message resonates so well.

My own historical judgment is that no charismatic leader can, or has ever, turned around ideological incivility of the sort that your post illustrates.

FWIW - though I will struggle against it - I believe the "left" will win the next presidential election (almost certainly Obama) but that the economic, global and ideological life of this country will continue to deteriorate. We will have much more class war rhetoric of the sort we enjoyed in the 1930's when FDR denounced "economic royalists", prosecuted prominent capitalists(like Mellon) for tax evasion when they used legal deductions and then railed against the "strike" of wealthy families against the American people. (Not surprisingly, they had stopped investing in plant and equipment and the unemployment rate in January 1938 was 17.4% despite 6 years of "pump priming" and 3 million WPA- type government jobs!!!)

JMO but in 8 to 12 years we may well have civil war and/or government takeover - depending on the economy and foreign disasters.

I predict that many of my friends on this board will look back on the Bush years as nirvana.
