I have read all of his books, but he is "second tier," IMO.

Parker is just outstanding. The Spenser series is great, and reads as one continuous novel. When I realized last year that I had missed his early ones, I reserved them out in order from the Library. Took me about six months to catch up with the ones I had missed. His Westerns are excellent also.

Donald Westlake 1933- The novels he writes as "Richard Stark", featuring the amoral thief Parker, are darker fare

What a joy! Talk about "hard boiled!" They made two movies from his "The Hunter" novel. "The Outfit," in 73, and "Payback," in '99. Has won a couple of Oscars for his screenwriting. Another one to read in order, They are all "novellas." Parker is a "force of nature."
