As more Americans prepare to defend their own homes a related problem rears its ugly head.

It has become normal procedure for local police to use paramilitary tactics when serving a drug warrant. There tactics are supposed to be confusing to the occupents to keep them off balance.

It is estimated that as many as 1400 homes are entered each year in which the door is smashed open in the middle of the night and masked people rush in. This estimate is for the raids conducted in which the police are at the wrong address.

Home owners, startled from sleep many times mistake this errant police action as home invasions.

Sometimes home owners get shot. Sometimes police do. Sometimes both.

This new wave of police military styled action is almost always totally uncalled for. It is supposed to keep lawbreakers off balance and prevent them from getting rid of evidence. In addition it is supposed to make the situation safer for the police.

Since when does police safety override public safety?

As police are plainly on record of endangering the public, by using these methods, they should be required to stop. Unless there is strong evidence to show such action is required.

Look at what happened in Wako with David Korish. The local sheriff had a personal relationship with David. He probably could have made a phone call and simply asked Korish to come to his office. Korish made frequent trips into town and could have been stopped at any time outside the compound. Instead the feds decided to use swat team military styled tactics. Look at the results.

This is even whey they get the right address.
