Apparently, it's not a high priority item to most people... clearly enough, the pharmaceutical companies have an iron grip over all government regulations regarding drugs and natural herbs, these companies don't want people to know they could use herbs to treat their ailments...

This past September I was sailing in the Cook Islands and we anchored at the island of Rarotonga, this is the biggest island in the Cook Islands... we left Bora Bora in the Polynesian Islands and spent four days at sea until we reached Rarotonga... our next stop was Fiji and then American Samoa, which was another several days sail from Fiji... anyhow, while on Rarotonga we met this herbalist, he refused to be called a medicine man although that's what he was, he was the chief medicine man on Rarotonga, people came to his house for treatment of all kinds, he was 67 years old but looked no more than 42, he said he's a vegetarian, swims a mile in the lagoon every morning and climbs to the top of the tallest mountain in the rain forest three times a week, he was in incredible shape... we spent several hours walking along a steep mountain trail in the rain forest and every few steps along the way he pointed out all kinds of leaves that can be used to treat illnesses... he would crush the leaf in his hands and oils from the leaf would come out...

He showed us how these oils can be used to treat specific illnesses, and everything he said made remarkable sense... for example, he show me a leaf from a tree that can test for diabetes as well as treat diabetes itself... we put it to the test and it worked, it was no trick, he explained why and how it worked, and it made such simple and incredible sense... obviously, people don't have to spend their hard earned money on expensive prescription medications, the natural oils in these plants have striking effects and tea can be made from these plants... an so on... we were guests at his home, his wife prepared lunch... everything was primitive and natural...

So, I have no doubt that the pressure against any legalizing of pot or any other herbal application has everything to do with profit...
