Rarebird;

This country (and most Americans) needs to get real about entitlements like social security

Boy rarebird, I was with you through the entire first part of your post and then you made the above comment. There is nothing wrong with SS that can't be fixed. It pays for itself and then some. The problem when you get rid of SS is what becomes of the people - like many who borrowed sub-prime loans and can't pay them back? Great tell people to take care of themselves, but what happens when they don'T? What happens when they make bad decisions (like buying a house that is way more than they can afford)and have no money left to retire on?

I agree with a lot of your post, but not two important parts of it -

1 - Your reason for having problems with McCain. Not that I don't have problems with McCain, but my main problem is McCain-Feingold (I have some other issues, but that's the big one). I don't think I have a major problem with what you call his being a "bigger super war monger". I don't think that description is exactly accurate, and the part that I do think is accurate (supports continuing the effort in Iraq) isn't a problem for me.

2 - "I support universal healthcare as a human right" - I don't support the idea of any positive rights ( fee.org ) as natural human rights.

and don't see Obama's position here as supporting that

His position is very similar to Hillary's except that he doesn't want to force adults to buy insuarance. I'm not sure Hillary's position makes health care more of a legal right, or considers it as a natural right any more than Obama's.

I strongly agree with your statement - "This country (and most Americans) needs to get real about entitlements like social security."

I also agree with - "Secondly, I see taxes potentially rising dramatically for the "average guy" who Obama claims to support in order to pay for all the "goodies" he is promising."

Thirdly, I see the stock market declining tremendously under an Obama Presidency as his administration ushers in an era of trade protectionism.

I'm not sure there will be no protectionism if Obama becomes president, but at least I don't think there will be any push from the Oval Office for expansion of trade agreements.
