One solution might be a law that MAKES them get it, a draconian measure, but far preferable to laws that level us just because having better coverage is "not fair."

Makes them get it with what? They can't afford it now, and the costs are going up (parabolically). These people are not making bad choices with their money, they are without access to health services.

Many of the 50 million have insurance, unfortunately it is only catastrophic. Deductibles of even $500 make it impossible to get any care at all for basic stuff. That means after essentials, like rent, food, transportation etc... they simply can't afford doctor visits, because they don't have the money.

They can't afford to go to the doctor for colds or flu or flu shots. Or get their teeth cleaned, or pulled if they become abscessed (which does necessarily occur because of poor dental hygiene). Or get new glasses, when their prescriptions no longer work.

Many of the 1 in 6 Americans without health care are not without health care becauase they are lazy or stupid, they are without health care because after what it takes to survive, they simply cannot afford it.

They cannot even afford to walk into an emergency room if they have an emergency. Even with the insurance they have paid with.
