I'll go out on a limb and say there was a ton of fraud going on with anyone with their hands in the cookie jar during the mania.. I bet you'll find the fraud in the underwriting process in 2004-06 and then on the corporate accounting and finance side the past 18 or so months..

Thornburg couldn't get big enough to be a major problem, hence no saving it. I agree, good company with an honest CEO. Shame.
