Al,

Yes and no...on the environmental side of the issue, there is always the problem of waste and the lesser odds of accidents, the consequences of which can be catastrophic.

Problem of waste disposal is entirely political one. The safe disposal side is blocked by Dems and Enviros. Additionally, newer reactors can re-process old waste to create new waste that is a lot more benign - or, of course, using new fuel, they extract more energy out of it.

As far as accidents, there is always potential of that, but the track record is excellent. We hear of dying miners. Working on Oil rigs can be dangerous, and the whole oil dependence (indirectly) due to terrorism and counter-terrorism.

That's where we disagree. If the right incentives are put in place, every roof in the nation has the potential to become a mini generating station.

I am all for that, but the way I look at it is like PC penetration. You start with early adopters, paying premium, working out the problems, and eventually you get to the masses, when the entire supply and service chain is developped. Trying to shortcut this process can lead to costly mistakes.

Take fluorescent lights. They are turning out to be an environmental disaster...

I suspect they will lean more towards lesser invasive technologies, like solar for example.

They (Obama + Hillary) do it for political reasons - at least in primaries. A lot of nutcases vote in Dem primaries.

But it would not surprise me that if one of them either clinches the nomination or wins presidency, that the winner does 180 on nuclear. They will no longer depend on Enviro nutcases, and they will focus on real problems. High oil prices are a real problem, like a tax increase, depressing the economy. And the money does not stay in the US economy.
