If he were white, he wouldn't have gotten some of the extra positive attention. He wouldn't have gotten some of the extra negative attention, either.

Cogito, I have yet to hear someone say that Hillary is where she is because she is a woman or inspite of being a woman.

Now in the case of Barack, there are well-intentioned comments made in the past whether it be Sen. Biden, or ex-Senator Bob Kerry and possibly Geraldine Ferraro. They are probably wanting to be one of the early ones trying to embrace the possibility of an American-American occupying the highest office in the land. But the candidate himself has said and to use McCain's analogy "I would rather loose an election than win one by raising the issue of race." And he has been very successful in impressing on the African-American community to cease looking at issues from the angle of color e.g. Rep. Lewis. Until enter Bill and Hillary Clinton during the SC primary. That is when I started to see Rev. Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton, who prior to that said that Obama was not black enough, come out in full support for Obama.

So I would say that since none of us opinionating that Hillary is where she is today in spite of her gender, I would expect the Democratic Party leaders to cease and desist from drawing any reference to Obama's gender. doing so could soon generate into .... After all, nobody is paying heed to Gloria Steinhem.
