They're also of an inferior quality and level of performance than newer materials under development. They produce a very low level of power - I do not disagree that research dollars need to be allocated to develop the newer materials. That said - even a prius only netted a $5K consumer tax break and those only a few years.

It's been hard to break the 20% efficiency barrier. The improvements will come with packaging...for instance, Ovonics is producing a shingle...amorphous silicon deposited on stainless steel substrate, and iproduced on a roll to roll process. It's easy to imagine how that could become relatively inexpensive some day not too far off.

Do you have one and how much did it cost?

I am building a house now...will have one in a couple of years. I was kidding of course with the cheap skate comment.
