While I understand you concerns, I think almost any black candidate involved with a black church would probably have some connection to black pride movements that sound racist, because they ARE aimed at helping the black community. If whites had the same dismal college statistics at the UC's in California, and the other problems the black community faces, we'd probably see white pride movements. There is nothing inherently unhealthy about the church's mission, I think. Of course I have no problem with groups that want to help whites- I think it's a little unnecessary to aim for the white community, seeing how well the community does, but if people want to do that, and find that a way to give back, I think we allow people to help "their own" communities.

I seem to recall that Hillary has done some things with regard to affirmative action for women, and the advancement of women (and been associated with movements that do the same), that are similar to what Obama's church is doing for the black community. Should we consider Hillary dangerously sexist? I don't think so.

At the very least, it's worth further investigation. WE can't be too careful about scrutinizing Presidential candidates.

Every Presidency has it's high and low points and all will be subject to attacks from adversaries. It doesn't hurt to look at all the potential warts.

I have seen many different religious groups and how they interact with their Pastors. Some Pastors are revered and it's thought that God is talking when they speak. To question their word is to be condemned to hell immediately.

Some also perform something similar to channeling and think that messages are coming from the spiritual world. I walked out of a prayer meeting one night when someone said they were getting a message from God that was telling them to believe in George Bush because he believes in me ( God was talking at the time). I got to hell out of there after a short speech ( vbg)

Like I said, we need to investigate this church and know exactly what goes on in there if Obama gets guidance from Pastor Wright.

>>I think Obama's church is racist. I voted for him on the first Florida primary, but I am not sure how I will vote the second time -- if any.<<

KyrosL -

Have you checked out the church's website?

To me, they seem to be all about promoting positive values among black people, in order to lift them up out of poverty and decadence, as opposed to being somehow against white people. Among other things, they're trying to stamp out the notion, popular among younger African Americans, that doing well in school is "acting white", and trying to get black people to take responsibility for their own lives and their own success, rather than just complaining that "the man" is keeping them down. Those are good things, in my opinion.

Granted, the honoring of Lewis Farrakhan is problematical, though one can consider that not everything the man does is racist. Some of what he does is also positive, in promoting education among black people.
