"Is there a Commercial Real Estate Crash Index thread yet?"

Here's a start. Wealthy relative got into commercial in California, late 90's, as a flipper. Made $15-20MM in short time frame. In 2006 wanted to share wealth with family members and asked them to invest(not me). Latest venture according to him is about 28-30% underwater. His current valuation is based on the same mark-to-market as investment houses used. IOW, it could become another BSC.

You can tack ours on to that list, as soon as either the owner finds a tenant or we decide that renting at 1/2 price still isn't worth it. Probably visit the mall this weekend to remind me to rebuild position in commercial reit puts

There was a post on this thread about decline in demand for office space in major cities earlier today. In a recession there is NO DOUBT that commercial is gonna get nuked. None, zero, zip, nada....

I heard that Sharper Image closed half their stores after not making a profit for the last three years. Now, the only place to park your butt in a shiatsu massage chair will be Brookstone..

Hopped into SRS yesterday. May not be the highest return, but easy peasy.
