Markets rocking and rolling

Not sure if this is good or bad. What do you think? Is the dollar crashing? What happens to gas prices? Where can I check it out?

Bob, the Bear Stearns news is unbelievable!!!! I was just looking at it Friday, trying to figure out what the book value might actually be as a sum of the discounted parts.

What I remember most clearly was their relatively new office bldg. on Madison Ave. was valued at $12 per share, even after factoring in the recent declines in NY corporate real estate.

They were bleeding assets as accounts were leaving, but still Barrons gave the retail brokerage business a value of, I think, $20 a share. The institutional part was valued at zero, but now it appears its value was a huge negative number!!!!

This is devastating news. Every other investment banker has some level of counterparty risk to Bear, I would think.

>>Hey gang - check out the financial news - Bear Sterns sold for $2 per share tonight. Fed cut interest rates on a Sunday. Gold now at $1021.20. Markets rockin and rollin!<<

Bob -

I expect a seriously down day tomorrow in reaction to the news about Bear Stearns. It's mind boggling.

I spent a lot of time at Bear Stearns as an IT consultant in the 90s. In that role, I had occasion to meet and work with a lot of people there. I feel terrible for all of them today.

This is just an astonishing collapse, and it has happened over the course of a few days. Incredible.
