Or if you are a sensible person (or society), you might invest heavily in finding an alternative. Which means paying a higher price. If gas went to $40 a gallon tomorrow and our economy shut down It still wouldn't be a transfer of wealth. It would be all sorts of things that might be much worse than transferring wealth, but if your arguing that a specific bad thing is happening, pointing out how different bad things are happening or could happen, isn't evidence for your claim.
