Well, Karen, the contradictions in your post leave me without an obvious response. Perhaps they are nuance.

You say, if I understand it correctly, that because you have "uncles" who are Wright sympathizers, his statements don't "bother" you. But before that you say that his statements were outrageous.

Best I can tell you are making a distinction between the source and the statement. Perhaps that's where we differ. I don't think it's possible to understand them without the context of who Wright is and what he is up to.

I understand that the constant replaying of them on youtube makes that division. And that does represent a political problem for Obama. No doubt about it. But one of the ways he deals with this is offering context.

And one of the ways we "understand" them is to see them in context.

As for your sidebar comment about "the halo effect," you might wish to explain it. I trust it was not a shot, cheap or otherwise.

Again, if you wish to discuss any specific statement of Wright's, I would be happy to do so.
