If Hillary gets the nomination, and Obama runs as an independent, then it hands the election over to McCain.

But I think Obama's likely to get the nomination, and if he doesn't he won't run as an independent.

And he's proven he can raise money which is always a big problem for a third party in the US.

What's the significant ideological or policy difference between Obama and Clinton, or between Obama and Democrats in general, that would provide the reason for a new party?

And don't forget the independents. Which I think a third party would appeal to.

Yeah, and he can raise money directly from millions of citizens like you and me, a bit at a time, over and over. Third parties have always sported weak candidates. Not Obama!
