Allen, it seems to me that Hillary could have survived the right-wing attacks if (1) there is no NEW, irrefutable case of wrongdoing that had some clout to it and (2) Democrats were united behind her in telling the right-wing to just give it up, to just shut up and go away.

So far nothing in the category of #1 has surfaced, but as for #2, there's too large and too vocal of a segment of the Democratic party that has sought to elevate Obama by tearing down Hillary.

This can't be undone or overcome should Hillary get the nomination, IMO. For ex., how the heck does MSNBC turn on a dime and suddenly sing the praises of a Clinton presidency?

Dale made a perfect reference to the Dem. party having become a circular firing squad. It's regrettable and I'm not sure how this came to be, but it is the state of affairs right now.

Maybe it can be overcome....there is time. I will be particularly interested to see what the overall voter turnout is in PA and the other states coming up. If that relative number starts dropping off, it will worry me. We don't want voters who are starting to get confused, disgusted, embittered by the process.

<<<Sure, Obama will be (and is already being, in my opinion) smeared in the general election if he wins the nomination. But Clinton will be smeared as well. They'll bring up all the crap from the past, and come up with new stuff.>>>

Hillary has been under the microscope of public scrutiny for nearly 18 years. She has been accused of murdering Vince Foster, Travelgate, lesbian relationships, political payoffs (commodities trading), and stealing funiture from the Whitehouse. Bill Clinton has been accused of rape, having oral sex in the oval office, playing racial politics, and many other things.

Ken Starr and others have spent hundreds of million tax payer and privately funded money to dig up witnesses and paid informants in the hopes of getting at and smearing the Clintons.

There is no more damage that can be done. Whereas, Barack Obama has been portrayed at an unreasonably high standard. He is not as well known as the Clintons. He still has to introduce himself to much of America.

Why put Barack into this impossible position. He is a human being. He is a politican. He has to do what human beings have to do: To learn, to fail, to err, to get up again to be the kind of person that you think he is.

You can't believe in magic, or fairy tails, or spontaneous generation. Barack is human. He has to be tested.

Nelson Mandella would not have been the same person if he didn't go through what he went through.

This need for instant gratification and success can not possibly work out.
