I think some people would drop over dead if they tried to apply that to Wright's sermons though :-)

If only we could all start with an acceptance of these two ideas
(a) he is trying to communicate with you, and, (b) your obligation is to make a good-faith effort to understand his meaning.

Let me, with your permission, add a third, the value of empathy. Try to see the world from the place of the other, try to get inside the experience, all before making judgments.

Empathy has always struck me as one of the prime virtues and hugely undervalued.
