India is getting a 3rd CDMA operator. This is going to go a long way to balancing out any slowdown at Reliance/Tata due to their adoption of GSM. Depending on the aggressiveness of Sistema, this could even be a net positive for CDMA.

Shyam Telelink gets additional spectrum for 9 circles
New Delhi (PTI): New telecom player Shyam Telelink, which recently tied up with Russian telecom giant Sistema, on Friday said it has got additional spectrum for nine circles, a move that would help the venture to roll out its nation-wide services.

"We have received CDMA spectrum for Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh (East) Uttar Pradesh (West), Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Haryana," Shyam Telecom Group CMD Rajiv Mehrotra said.

With the additional radio frequency of 5Mhz, the company can operate in 13 circles. Earlier it had got 2.5 Mhz of start-up spectrum for three circles, which include six states of North-East, Assam and Jammu and Kashmir.

The company is also expected to get spectrum for another eight circles very soon, making it a pan-India operator, sources said.

"We expect support from existing operators for interconnection, roaming and termination charges. We would roll out the service soon," Mehrotra said.
