I see the bluff as superb luck and prevented tens of thousands of targets sitting for month after month in the dessert as wonderfully concentrated targets for saddam or all the non existent terrorists in Saudi Arabia.

I think this is the crux of the issue. There is a group that doesn't seem to believe Bush made a mistake in going into Iraq. They don't seem to believe that they made mistakes in prosecuting the war at all or its aftermath. I believe this is the 29% that still gives Bush a favorable rating.

If you can't admit mistakes, you can't change what is wrong. If you don't look for where you may be in error, you can never fix what may be wrong. I think some of the issue here is big media. So much of the population gets its news from just 1 source these days. And many times, especially in todays world of spinning the news, there is very little room for dissent or real discussion.
