Syb - More than once I've had people tell me that my belief that there were no WMDs in Iraq, nor facilities to make them, is just a delusion, based on my desire to believe it. More than once, I've had people refer me to Duelfer and the Iraq Survey Group report for proof that I was wrong. What's especially weird about that is that I have read the Iraq Survey Group report, and I never found the proof these people said was there. The other thing that's weird is the theory that the WMDs were there, but they were moved to Syria before our invasion. What I wonder about that theory is 1) why Bush did nothing about going after Syria if that was the case, and 2) why these WMDs have never been given to terrorists and used, since Syria is supposed to be a state sponsor of terrorism. It's a puzzlement. - Allen

Well being an engineer, I will say saddam had more than enough resources to start producing chemical and bio hazards within weeks of any reprieve of surveillance. It is delusion that speaks otherwise. And your explanation of dupe does not hold full logical certainty. The President's duty first is to protect Americans. He must first say and do what he must to create that protection. It is politically simpler if what should be said is a plausible truth that supports what he must do. Was slam dunk a staged political statement? Did the President dupe saddam that we would not ever invade as America was bluffing attack so saddam would not run away of make some compromise that complicated military eradication. In any case the majority meaning of dupe applies to the hung by the neck side of the duel.
