saddam was in charge of vast area and not in control of vast area where islamic terrorist cults could train and plan attacks on America and Americans. saddam was in charge of Iraq like Russia was once in charge of Afghanistan.

saddam was vile beyond description, that by itself is not a reason to eliminate. however after 911 the saddam circumstance changed. The bar of destruction of a terrorist act was raised.

Un-hindered access was a legitimate criterion in threat analysis. saddam could not be rehabilitated.

When Americans entered areas saddam was in charge of on legitimate treaty missions they were targeted and fired upon.

Were there formal or informal connections, I expect there were.

Leaving an actively hostile leader in charge of vast area where he had no to limited control where islamic terrorist cults could train and plan attacks on America and Americans was a continuing imminent threat to America. And the questionable security and existence of WMD and known formal or informal connections with the proximity of islamic terrorist cults was also a real possibility and continuing imminent threat to America.

you can believe it or not.
