you:

SPSN: Short Interest UP 4.1% to 16.6M in Mid Mar 2008

me:

Well, the should be a surprise to a lot of SPSN stock holders. It seemed like the consensus was that once the merger was done all the arbitrage related shorting would be covered. If anything those shorts are a shifty bunch, very hard to read. Not that I attach much credence to the short numbers given. There's just too much shorting going on outside of the normal channels.

The good news is that someone has been buying SPSN lately and it looks like, at least some of the shares bought, came from the shorts. Like I said I can't imagine that anyone who held through the downdraft would be inclined to give up their shares now when SPSN finally seems to be on the mend. Still, volume remains dismal, unless this is what it was all along and the difference was the shorts selling to each other to control the stock price? It would be interesting to know if todays action was the shorts trying to reassert control until it started costing too much?

With practically no one selling it wouldn't take much buying to get this stock into the $4 range. There are lots of little guys day trading this stock but they really don't count as their influence is practically nill. Probably as little as $3M to $5m could get the stock up a buck or so. As an added benefit some of the shorts would undoubtedly start to get cold feet as they did in the last run up.

Keith,

I wonder if SFUN shareholders had their SPSN shares delivered by Mid March. I doubt it.
