The true costs are hidden but this doesn't mean it is "free".

Best thing they could do is eliminate employer provided health care. Take whatever it is costing the company and put it right on the check. Let everybody cover their own health care costs, either by an insurance policy or by paying cash. Just like you now buy any other good or service. Never happen of course, because too many people are employed in the current system where some procedure costs x, but the hospital knows it has to charge 2x if it has any hope of getting x, and the insurance company justifies itself by negotiating paying 1/2(2x) so it can show how much money the company can save by hiring the insurance company.

And we apparently have a whole new batch of people who need employment in the health care support field, judging by the current political hot air.

Provide healthcare and a retirement for their citizens. They all do it, but us. Why is that, do you think? Of course it isn't free.

one way you can get an idea of the costs is health care expenditures as a percentage of GDP. on this measure i believe the US is the undisputed "leader of the free world".
