And... factored in US dollars, the AU net worth has benefitted from the decline in the US dollar but is of minimal actual impact. But it does illustrate how we are going backwards.

And as their property bubble unwinds, some of those gains as you say will evaporate.

If US citizens included some share of SS then we'd look a bit better off. However, I wouldn't be banking on that slush fund being around for my own retirement.
