Well, the fact is you NEED to have used credit to get a credit rating, or you can't finance that house. I've got multiple credit lines I don't use, and a great rating. So, using credit is mandatory, unless you're Paris Hilton. Financing that first used car to get to work isn't a terrible idea, even though it'd be better to just buy one outright.

My parents didn't teach me about credit, but they did teach me morals, which included paying my debts and honoring my obligations. Which served the same purpose.
