If you are only going to read one, I'd read Lonesome Dove. If you think you might read several, read Deadman's Walk, Comanche Moon, Lonesome Dove, and Streets of Laredo, in that order.

It might help to watch Lonesome Dove movie first. It's the best movie ever made, in my opinion. It helps to fix the characters in your mind.

I've read the Berrybender Chronicles, which was kinda disappointing.

I think it's time I read a McMurtry novel.

Do yourself a favor. Don't. I have tried his novels several times. And never enjoyed any of them. They just move too slow.

The only McMurtry novel I have liked is "Lonesome Dove," which I thought was excellent (I never saw the tv series). After that I tried a couple but found them exceptionally easy to put down and never pick up again.
