Any thoughts about reinstating the draft? Although you and UW, among others, seem to favor it, as LindyBill has stated here several times, it's not gonna fly. Any serious attempt to reimpose a draft would rip this country into paroxysms of protest and violence. Won't happen..

Any thoughts about reinstating the draft? I hope we don't wait until it is too late. A substantial nucleus of the selective service system is still maintained. About a year ago, a system test was scheduled for 2008 or 2009. Probably next year since this is an election year. It could be ramped up fairly quickly.

Any thoughts about reinstating the draft? If I may, here is my thinking on the subject of a draft. Neither Clinton or Obama would initiate a draft. McCain would initiate, if a catastrophic event occurred in the country, i.e. ten times worse than the WTC killings. If Obama were elected, the AQ element might well wait to see what he could be persuaded to do relative to worldwide politics such as Israel. If Clinton were elected, they pretty know what she will do. If the the Iraq and Afghan situations indicate more local control and some withdrawal by the US and other countries, I think a draft could be initiated and maybe, even bought into by the general public. However, there are many moms and dads out there who do not want their kids in the military under any circumstances, so it is really anyone's guess.
