I better take a look as I hold MFL.TO
They are in dry lands of Sonora Mexico.
One thought on Gold though is, yes you disturb the ground and mess things up to get it out. After that though I kind of think the product goes into circulation helping to stimulate trade and the flow of money in a small way for many many years with out much further environmental stress.

You want to see messing with nature, check out acid leaching used in gold mining. Makes anything the oil industry does look green

That nickel mine in Sudbury, ON, the one where they're digging up the stuff to power those cute little "green" hybrids, is not exactly environmentally pristine, either..
