Mqurice,

I’m interested in understanding an NZ perspective on what constitutes rudeness.

I can see it pays you to deliberately ensure that you do NOT know the difference.
Very wise. Cowardly, but wise.

Would this last barrage be considered as rude in an NZ salon, or is this your way of saying “discretion is the better part of valor?” Do you find that it is sometimes necessary to be explicitly rude to make a quick point?

The reason that I ask you is because you seem to know the inherent value systems of so many cultures – including an intimate knowledge of the Chinese. Normally, the Chinese and other Asian cultures need to “save face” and avoid ugly public confrontations. Getting bitch slapped during negotiations by NZ trade representatives would seem to be a bad diplomatic move. I would still like to know if this style of salesmanship has ever worked for you. Has TJ ever warmed to this approach of yours?

Warmest regards

Meanwhile this has been what page news in the rest of the world ? I guess Fijians must be less deserving of democratic self determination than the Tibetans... Not much hypocrisy in this world... Tibet is an issue... a sexy issue.. and serves certain geopolitical ends... otherwise it would be as newsworthy here as Fiji... but I'm not telling you anything you don't know :O)

Imagine all the dough and lives the US could have saved liberating Fiji instead of Iraq.. and then we'd benefit from all that Fijian oil also :O)
