I like the idea of public schools because it signifies that society acknowledges its responsibility. However, entire school systems have been taken over by an ideology that has nothing to do with that.

I lay the blame on Teacher's Colleges for hiring faculty with an agenda and a leftist bent, and school boards who don't mind the store. A lot of them spend their time trying to figure out how to cut budgets rather than improve quality.

My mother and father both served as President of the PTA of the school I attended, and voted for every bond issue that came up, but they were very conservative Republicans their entire lives. Mom still is.

Private schools might work, but there has to be some kind of leveling system so the parents with money don't get all the best teachers, leaving the losers for the rest.

The best teachers came to the field from other fields in which they were successful. It might be a valid requirement, and would certainly reduce the stranglehold on the profession now held by the teachers' unions and colleges.

Home schooling has its place. Home schooling parents should have to meet the same standards as expressed by the performance of their kids. I've heard objections to home schooling that refer to lack of teacher credentials for homeschooling parents, but RESULTS are what count.
