Until 2006 Bush got away with so many things because all three branches of government were under one party: neocons who hijacked the true Republican party and principles. Checks and balances did not exist during that time. Then the midterm election got the Democrats control the Legislative branch, but leaders like Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid do not have the guts to hold the Executive branch accountable for the lies of WMD and invasion of Iraq under false and manufactured scenarios. Hopefully after the Executive Branch is back under the Obama, the Republican Party will regain control and kick those neocons out. The danger is when the Legislative Branch is still under the Democratic Party causing the checks and balances to not exist just like Bush's first 6 years, except somebody else is in power.
