If all taxes are added up, I'd bet that most Americans already pay 35+% of their income to taxes of all sorts. I'd bet that transportation taxes alone add at least 10% to the cost of every item we buy. If you count 15% for SS, an average of about 19% for Federal income tax, state and local sales taxes, the added cost of goods and services because of business taxes, etc, I'd be amazed if the total of ALL taxes came out to less than 40% or so.
