Pasteur's work on germ theory was in the mid-1800s. By 1870, Dr. Lister was mounting his campaign for doctors to wash and to sterilize their instruments. By the turn of the century, it was universal.

Usual uninformed bullshit.

In 1992, The New England Journal of Medicine reported on a handwashing study in an intensive-care unit. Despite special education and monitored observation, handwashing rates were as low as 30% and never went above 48%!

"Pasteur and Lister were liberals. Their beliefs don't count."
