Gasoline is still cheap in the US. And now the government is mandating the increase use of ethanol, just like Brazil. General Motors will make E85 cars. The problem is that not many places have E85 stations. So, the car is good for driving around the block, picking up children from school and grocery shopping.

Does not the government know that Brazil is successful with ethanol because the source of ethanol is sugar cane and not corn? Has anybody bought a sugar cane stick and squeeze that bamboo looking stuff? You get a lot of sweet juice. Therefore, the ethanol yield per acre from sugar cane is much higher than from corn. Besides, Brazil has a lot of unused land in the Amazon to grow sugar cane.

In the US more and more land is converted to growing corn. While it seems that we are growing food, the corn is converted to ethanol. I saw a cartoon showing a fat mat grabbed an ear of corn from a bone and skin child with the caption: "I need that for my Hummer". Yes sir, yes indeed!

Where is the common sense?

You read in the paper everyday about shortage of food all around the world. Rice paddies in Thailand have to be guarded at night since somebody would steal after dark. The price of rice has increased at least 50% and many rice producing countries have restricted the amount that can be exported.

We have to thank the good Lord that we have enough to eat everyday.

Have a good day.

Um, we don't get oil from Iraq. Nice try, though.
