Think you're wrong on the prevalance of polygamy. Hindus, Buddhists don't practice it today. Islam is the only major faith that does officially now. But even among Muslims abroad it is not the norm.

Maybe you're thinking of mistresses. More common, still a minority except for Taiwanese and HK Chinese men - most of those have a wife at home and a mistress on the mainland.
