But you can't crush them. They are not a nation state. They are an ideology.

Tejek

If you don't comprehend that jihad is more than a mere ideology, you simply do not understand the first thing about this subject.

Then you will need to explain the subject to me so that I will comprehend it on your level.

These are not a ragtag group of renegade thugs; they are organized, well-financed, well-trained, well-equipped, and passionate in their beliefs. It is true that America has dealt a huge blow to Al Qaeda since 9/11; but it is also foolish to believe they have been eradicated.

Whose said they were eradicated? And why do you exaggerate their capabilities? Their terrorist attacks are fairly infrequent, and with the exception of 9/11 which the right has turned into the blitzkrieg of NYC, are relatively unimaginative and smallish.

When bin Laden formed the Mujahideen Services Bureau, it was to assemble a group professionals -- engineers, physicians, the like -- who were capable of organizing a large scale effort to conduct the jihad. Just as would any 'nation state'.

Maybe. But its primary purpose was to build roads and infrastructure.

I believe this is part of the problem of the left; you are simply unable to envision that a fanatic religious sect is capable of being a serious threat to America.

Yes....only a well equipped and militarized nation like China can be a serious threat to the US.

You believe 9/11 was a stroke of 'good luck' on AQ's part. It wasn't.

Not at all.......I think with enough money and planning a 9/11 is doable. What's also notable is that they haven't done one since. Now I know you all like to tell yourself that Bush has made things safer for the country but even you all in your more sane moments must realize that our national security system remains lame enough with enough large holes in it that you could drive a Mack truck through one of them. I mean.....you all do fly and take the train....never mind, scratch the last one......like the rest of us. In other words, its very likely they can't get the scrub together to commit another major act.

These organizations are substantial, functioning, and well-managed.

Yeah......you see we just don't agree; "substantial".....hardly, "functioning".....well yes, in a fragmented sort of way; "well managed"......what? You think CEOs of major corps are quitting their jobs to run terrorist cells? I don't think so.
